OVERVIEW

JOB PURPOSE

 

The Recruiting Specialist, in collaboration with the Senior Recruiting Specialist, Human Resources managers and client groups, is responsible for executing the Law Society’s recruitment and selection initiatives, including the implementation of processes and procedures to attract and retain qualified employees. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

 

  • A university degree in business, human resources management or related field.   
  • CHRP designation and Registered Professional Recruiter certification considered an asset.
  • As the incumbent is required to build strong relationships with client management and staff, and to function with nominal supervision, a minimum of 3 years’ related experience working in a dynamic, change oriented, consultative corporate human resources environment is required.
    • Knowledge of best practices with respect to recruitment metrics and data.
    • Recruitment and selection techniques
    • Attraction and retention strategies
  • Recruitment related metrics and data analysis
  • Knowledge and familiarity with on‑line recruiting including the use of Social Media
  • Experience with Applicant Tracking Systems
  • Experience using personality assessment tools, in particular, DISC, and in providing feedback and coaching to both candidates and managers on results.
  • Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
  • In depth knowledge of Employment, Human Rights and related legislation.
  • Solid understanding of the Law Society, its policies, mission and organizational structure, or willingness to learn.       


 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Client / Customer Service Planning 

 

  • In consultation with Senior Recruiting Specialist, Human Resources and client managers, contributes to the assessment of the organization’s recruitment and selection needs, and helps implement processes and approaches to ensure that recruitment and selection programs are aligned with overall organizational strategies. 
  • Ensures that recruitment policies and procedures are up to date and compliant with legislative requirements and best human resources practices, particularly relating to behaviourally and competency based interviewing and selection processes, and in keeping with the Law Society’s policy and positioning regarding equity in the workplace. 
  • Utilises a variety of tools and methods to source candidates, including on‑line recruiting and Social Media.  
  • Administers and interprets personality assessment tool (DISC) and coaches on impact of results. 
  • Creates sophisticated, job relevant behavioural and competency based interview guides.
  • Ensures that recommendations are consistent with best practices, and Law Society strategic directions. 

Client / Customer Service Delivery 

 

  • In consultation with the Senior Recruiting Specialist, directs employment advertising activities, and markets the Law Society as an employer of choice with service providers and applicants using a variety of social media. 
  • Provides guidance and expertise to Human Resources, client groups and others on complex and sensitive issues related to recruitment and selection and maintains a database of relevant, behaviourally based interview questions and techniques. 
  • Develops and maintains a databank of potential candidates within the iCIMS Applicant Tracking System, skills inventories, recruiting resources and employment statistics and analyzes data, making recommendations that impact the Recruitment function. 
  • Liaises with candidates to facilitate their completion of Personality Assessment Tests (DISC) and other skill based testing. 
  • Interprets assessment and testing results for Hiring Managers, coaching on potential impact on team and on department of hiring decisions.
  • Provides candidates with feedback and coaching with respect to the results of their interview and testing, including a de-brief of their DISC assessment results. 

Policy Development 

 

  • In collaboration with the Senior Recruiting Specialist and Human Resources, client groups, consultants and others, researches and recommends HR policies to address specific recruitment and selection needs. 
  • Identifies gaps in current policy processes, benchmarks best practices of other organizations, and formulates organization-appropriate response. 
  • Conducts follow-up recruitment review sessions with the Senior Recruiting Specialist and HR Managers and ensures that feedback is incorporated into Law Society recruitment and retention strategies. 
  • Ensures that equity initiatives are considered and met within recruitment and selection policies and initiatives. 

Financial Responsibility 

 

  • Negotiates with service providers regarding placement fees, and contributes to the development of employee contracts, within established guidelines and procedures.  

Team Membership

 

  • Works closely with and assists Human Resources, including external consultants and service providers, in the planning, scheduling, and development of effective strategies, policies, projects and work processes. 
  • Contributes to and delivers on a variety of initiatives to facilitate and support human resources plans, which are aligned with departmental initiatives and the strategic plan of the organization.
