OVERVIEW

Since its founding in 1797, the Law Society of Ontario (LSO) has worked to ensure the public is well served by legal professionals who meet high standards of learning, competence and professional conduct. Today the Law Society is the governing body for more than 50,000 lawyers and 8,000 paralegals in the province of Ontario.

 

The mandate of the Law Society is to govern the legal professions in the public interest by upholding the independence, integrity and honour of the legal professions for the purpose of advancing the cause of justice and the rule of law.

 

With the recent departure of its CEO, the Law Society is actively recruiting its next Chief Executive Officer to lead the organization’s approximately 600 staff. As CEO, you will assume leadership, operational responsibilities and accountabilities for one of the most prestigious, high profile, well respected independently governed professional organizations in North America.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

The ideal candidate will bring a successful background with significant operational experience coupled with considerable knowledge of the legal professions, including of relevant issues and challenges. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record of managing    and motivating lawyers and/or staff to achieve organizational objectives. With a keen awareness of the issues affecting the legal professions, and superb conceptual, communications and relationship building skills, the successful candidate will be someone  who enjoys working with a board (the Benchers) and staff in a collaborative team setting.
