  • OVERVIEW

    JOB PURPOSE:

     

    The Senior WebSphere Portal Developer is responsible for the analysis, design, coding, unit testing, implementation and maintenance of the Law Society’s web based applications running on the WebSphere technology.  Leads the planning and identification of web application system requirements, analysis, design, coding, unit testing, upgrades, modifications and management of application system development solutions related to the WebSphere development platform.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

     

    • A college diploma or university degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent, coupled with relevant, ongoing education in applications development and relational database technologies in a Websphere environment.
    • The Senior Websphere Portal Developer is a development and support position with specialized technical expertise requiring 7 years progressive, related experience in Websphere applications development, support and analysis, preferably in a java environment under the Linux/Windows platforms.  At least 4 of these years should be working with Java based products within a Websphere environment using DB2 as the application database.
    • Knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, CSS is mandatory. 
    • Knowledge of frameworks and APIs such as Hibernate, Spring, Angular, Bootstrap is desirable. 
    • Experience with .NET and iSeries/AS400 would be considered an asset.
    • Extensive knowledge of current trends and development in information systems and their applications in relation to business solutions.
    • Excellent communication skills for knowledge sharing and brainstorming sessions with ability to effectively relay information and listen to other team members.
    • Thorough understanding of the Websphere development and support, Windows & Linux.
    • Must have experience developing portlets in a portal environment.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

    Client / Customer Service Delivery

     

    • As a senior member of the IT Development & Data Management team, works closely with team members and client department representatives to facilitate the definition of integrated web applications systems needs in relation to individual client department requirements.
    • Performs needs analysis and contributes to development of project specifications, plans project activities related to applications design, development, support and upgrades, and implements approved project plans.
    • Assesses, analyzes and evaluates the feasibility and desirability of corporate information application systems, including new applications, application modifications, and application upgrades. 
    • Leads assigned projects with respect to development, testing, application system modeling, implementation and maintenance of web based applications in support of client department needs.
    • Develops appropriate supporting documentation for application changes.  

     

    Research

     

    • Researches, quantifies and analyzes technology, making recommendations regarding impacts to Law Society web application systems and business requirements. 
    • Remains abreast of new products and tools via technical journals, internet sources, conferences and courses, and networks with other professionals.  

     

    Special Projects and Initiatives

     

    • Leads technical resources assigned to projects and provides consultation and project planning for the delivery of cost-effective, stable, predictable and responsive web application functionality.
    • Builds relationships with client department staff and managers, consulting with business units regarding application performance issues, development and implementation.  

     

    Team Membership

     

    • Provides leadership and expertise to other members of the department and client departments in the identification, diagnosis, isolation and resolution of complex problems related to web based applications. 
    • Develops and shares expertise regarding Law Society web application systems, and keeps team members up to date regarding web application systems issues, problems and initiatives. 
    • Leads and acts as a key contributor to client department teams, chairing meetings, facilitating needs identification, promoting the effective use of information technology solutions and web applications to maximize efficiency.
    • The Senior Websphere Developer will provide technical leadership, guidance and direction to personnel contributing to application development projects for which the incumbent is responsible.
    • The position may also be involved in the recruitment, interview and selection processes for both department employees and contract resources.
