  • OVERVIEW

    JOB PURPOSE

     

    The Web Developer - IRIS designs, develops, tests, implements and maintains web pages and components specifically related to the Integrated Regulatory Information System case management application (the IRIS application) in Professional Regulation (PR) ensuring its compatibility with all web browsers i.e. Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome etc. The Web Developer – IRIS works closely with business users and Case Management staff to understand functional and non-functional requirements and, in particular, with the Sr. Java Programmer & Analyst – IRIS, with support from the Development, Infrastructure team to implement the requirements. The Web Developer - IRIS provides support for any issues related to software issues with the IRIS application.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

     

    • A college diploma or university degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or relevant, ongoing education and experience in web‑based programming, design, technology and business applications.
    • The Web Developer – IRIS is a front‑line position with technical and design expertise, requiring, at minimum, 3 years’ related experience providing technical, design and programming support in a customer and deadline-driven environment with extensive knowledge of and experience with IBM Websphere Application server, DB2 on a Windows & Linux platform is required.
    • Experience with HTML, XML, JSPs and JavaScript is required.
    • Knowledge of current web trends: social media, mobile (responsive design), web analytics and SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
    • Strong understanding of Web technologies and Web architecture, particularly with Web content management systems, along with a strong applications development background.
    • Experience using software/program applications including HTML, CSS, JSP, JavaScript, CGI, C#, .NET, ASP, SQL, XML,  & relational databases.
    • Speak and write in a clear, articulate manner for individual and/or group situation.s
    • Interprets and applies complex information from technical manuals and diagnostic output.
    • Expertise with HTML/CSS, and client-side scripting libraries.
    • Understanding what it takes to develop web pages that are cross-browser and standards compliant and meet accessibility/disability requirements.
    • Strong understanding of web application security requirements.

     

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

    Client / Customer Service Planning                                               

     

    • Provides expertise, guidance and advice regarding web technologies to enhance and support strategic objectives of the IRIS application to more effectively manage the work of PR.
    • Contributes to the development of short‑term strategies, and to the creation of action plans for implementation of relevant web‑based program requirements.

    Client / Customer Service Delivery                                                

     

    • Coordinates with the Sr. Java Programmer & Analyst – IRIS to develop enhancements to support the IRIS application.
    • Works with the Case Management team and, when required, Professional Regulation staff to define needs, analyze requirements, and create web interfaces and applications.
    • Works collaboratively with Case Management and Information Technology Departments to deliver new web technologies as identified by content owners.

    Team Membership

     

    • Works closely with other members of the Case Management team.
    • Provides expertise regarding trends in Web application development. 

    Research

     

    • Identifies and researches new technologies and software applications to enhance effectiveness of the IRIS application and to meet client and user needs.
    • Tracks, measures and evaluates use of the application to identify trends, create benchmarks, and continuously make improvements.
