KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

The mandate of the Law Society’s Finance division is:

  • To maintain effective systems of internal control over the financial activities of the Law Society.
  • To maintain the financial stability of the Law Society.
  • To maintain books and records, receive, process and disburse funds under its control to the satisfaction of the Law Society's auditor's standards.
  • To plan the process for the financial year end and statement preparation. This process includes the external audit and culminates in the annual report adopted by Convocation and presented to the membership at the Annual General Meeting.
  • To maintain the administration of the Law Society Foundation and the Law Society Trust.

 

In order to effectively fulfill its mandate, the Finance Department's activities are divided into two units with different positions:

 

1. Financial Operations and Accounting:

  • Accounts Payable
  • Accounts Receivable 
  • Billing
  • General Accounting
  • Payroll

 

2. Financial Policy and Planning:

 

  • Financial Analysis
  • Procurement
  • Reporting
  • Systems Design & Integration
