OVERVIEW

JOB PURPOSE:

 

The Technical Writer supports the Information Technology (IT) department by creating, managing, and maintaining comprehensive technical documentation that facilitates the effective use of IT systems and processes across the organization. This role involves translating technical concepts, particularly in the context of MS Dynamics, into clear, user-friendly documentation for mostly technical but also non-technical audiences. The position is responsible for developing and updating technical manuals, user guides, tutorials, FAQs, and system documentation, while ensuring consistency and adherence to industry standards.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of a college diploma or equivalent related in computer technology
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience is required with 2-3 years of experience in Office 365 workloads / Microsoft application administration
  • Strong command of English with excellent grammar, writing, and editing skills
  • Familiarity with the software development life cycle (SDLC) and related IT concepts
  • Experience with Adobe FrameMaker or similar authoring tools
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly understand technical concepts and translate them for different audiences
  • Superior organizational skills and the ability to manage large volumes of information
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with superior project management skills
  • Proficiency in MS Dynamics and technical documentation tools
  • Advanced and specialized Proficiency in MS applications (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), SharePoint, Adobe, case management and content management systems, and other relevant documentation tools
  • Aptitude and interest in technology

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Client Customer Service Planning

  • Acts as an internal consultant and expert by providing guidance on technical documentation standards and best practices to various departments, including teams in IT.
  • Collaborates closely with IT stakeholders to develop and refine documentation strategies that align with organizational goals and project timelines.
  • Provides specialized support in ensuring that technical documentation meets industry standards and addresses the needs of the intended audiences.

Client / Customer Service Delivery

  • Develops and maintains comprehensive, user-friendly technical documentation for IT processes, systems,and applications, with a focus on MS Dynamics.
  • Creates clear and concise tutorials, FAQs, and support technical end-users to efficiently navigate ITsystems.
  • Participates in planning meetings and collaborates with project teams to create and follow document delivery plans synchronized with software development cycles.
  • Analyzes existing documentation for opportunities to reuse content and improve consistency and singlesource information across different platforms.
  • Participates in monthly post-deployment reviews to identify changes/additions to technical documentation.

Policy Development

  • Contributes to the establishment and continuous improvement of technical documentation policies, templates, and best practices.
  • Develops guidelines for structuring, maintaining, and updating a centralized library of technical documentation that supports IT operations and user adoption.

Performance Goals, Targets and Standards

  • Establishes and monitors performance metrics used to evaluate the quality, usability, and impact of technical documentation to continuously improve document quality and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Identifies documentation needs and proactively addresses content gaps to develop and deliver solutions that optimize IT processes and user experience.

Team Membership

  • Builds collaborative working relationships across departments, ensuring seamless integration of documentation efforts with broader IT and organizational objectives.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to teamwork by sharing knowledge and contributing to a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

 

WORKING ARRANGEMENT

The Law Society has introduced a Distributed Workforce Model to leverage flexibility and agility, and to maximize employee productivity and engagement. Work arrangements will be determined by role and departmental requirements. The working arrangement for this position has been classified as hybrid, where the employee will regularly flex their work location between home and office.
