OVERVIEW

JOB PURPOSE:

 

Delivers high-quality Human Resources (HR) services to support client groups and promote an engaging employee experience. Provides advice and guidance in talent and performance management, workforce planning, total rewards, employee relations, and organizational design and development throughout the employee lifecycle. Builds strong client relationships and offers strategic and tactical support that aligns with business priorities and drives organizational effectiveness. Partners with hiring managers to define recruitment needs, develop sourcing strategies, and support hiring decisions in collaboration with HR team members.

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • ​​Requires a 4-year Bachelor's Degree in ​ ​Business, Human Resources Management​ or related discipline, or relevant work experience.
  • ​​Designations as a Canadian Human Resources Professional / Leader (CHRP / CHRL) and/or Registered Professional Recruiter are considered assets.​
  • ​​Requires a minimum of 7 years’ experience as a Human Resources Business Partner and/or HR advisory role.​

Professional Knowledge: 

  • Employment and human rights related legislation; human resources best practices within Ontario. 
  • Understanding of recruitment and selection techniques, attraction and retention strategies, change management, employee engagement practices, performance management, total rewards practices.
  • Human resource management.
  • ​Development of Centre of Excellence (COE) best practices.
  • Knowledge of current HR trends and developments and its practical application.
  • ​Job design and workforce planning.
  • ​Employee relations and engagement / retention strategies.
  • Workplace Investigations methodology and best practices.  
  • Learning & development. 
  • ​Change Management and Organizational Design Theory and practical implementation. 
  • Health & Safety standards.​ 

Technical Skills:  

  • Proficiency in HRIS (including the Recruitment Module of Dayforce or equivalent software) with an ability to analyze and report on HR data.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite / 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). 
  • ​Proficiency in Adobe, DocuSign, People Survey Platforms such (e.g., Qualtrics) and digital tools would be asset.​

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Client / Customer Service Planning

  • Serves as a trusted advisor to client groups by providing expert HR guidance and developing solutions that drive engagement, resolve unique challenges, in alignment with best practices, legislative requirements, corporate priorities, and our commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Leads and supports organizational design initiatives by gathering and analyzing information using various tools (including Job Information Questionnaires), conducting risk and impact assessments, and developing job descriptions.
  • Partners with stakeholders to facilitate workforce planning and design and implement talent acquisition strategies that attract the right talent. Proactively anticipates workforce needs and supports the talent acquisition process within each client group.

Client / Customer Service Delivery

  • Engages with stakeholders to identify organizational needs and implement effective strategies by recommending programs and services that enhance effectiveness and align with the organization’s business plan, policies, and practices. 
  • Leverages key success factors, including change management, compensation, performance management, employee engagement, and equity, diversity, and inclusion, to inform and guide solutions.
  • Addresses sensitive employee relations matters in collaboration with leadership, including performance concerns, workplace conflict, misconduct, and harassment. Leads or supports timely, confidential, and procedurally fair investigations in accordance with organizational policies and legal requirements.
  • Advises assigned clients on best practices in talent management, process design, organizational structure, and leadership approaches. Ensures alignment with organizational culture and policies to enhance employee engagement and performance. 

Special Projects and Initiatives

  • Leads or supports HR projects and initiatives, including employee engagement surveys, talent management, organizational transformation, process improvement, and HR systems implementation.
  • Researches and benchmarks best practices, analyzes trends, and recommends HR enhancement processes and systems.
  • Participates in cross-functional teams, monitors project progress and outcomes, and identifies opportunities to improve HR service delivery.

Policy Development

  • Advises on the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance, mitigate risk, and promote fair, transparent practices.
  • Monitors emerging legislation, case laws, and industry trends to recommend policy enhancements and ensure continued alignment with best practices.

Team Membership

  • Collaborates with HR team members to plan, implement, and evaluate HR programs, and provides backup support to maintain service continuity.
  • Shares knowledge and offers cross-functional support across the HR team to enhance collaboration and ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
  • Builds strong relationships with internal and external partners to support project success.

 

WORKING ARRANGEMENT

The Law Society has introduced a Distributed Workforce Model to leverage flexibility and agility, and to maximize employee productivity and engagement. Work arrangements will be determined by role and departmental requirements.  The working arrangement for this position has been classified as hybrid, where the employee will regularly flex their work location between home and office.
